Il Duomo è il monumento principale della città e sorge a 410 m s.l.m.;
Accanto alla porta d'ingresso rimane una triplice iscrizione in caratteri greci e latini, tradizionalmente interpretata come invocazione a San Michele;
Il Duomo è affiancato dai prati degli Avelli (un antico cimitero) e dell'Arringo, dove un tempo si riuniva il popolo a parlamento;

The Duomo is the main monument of the city and rises to 410 meters above sea level.
From its church yard you can see the entire valley, between the Apuan Alps and the Apennines. Its history is fascinating and mysterious, as well as its position.
The Duomo is aligned with the surrounding mountains and with constellations; it is assumed that it was an observatory of Liguri-Apuani.
According to the official version, the church (which is dedicated to San Cristoforo) was built in four different periods, from 10th to 16th century.
Several hypotheses have been put forward on this. The façade, in alberese stone, is enriched by numerous sculptures including tiles with animal, human and geometric shapes, often symbolic.
Next to the entrance door there is a triple inscription in Greek and Latin characters: we think it is an invocation to St. Michael.
On the architrave you can see a harvest scene and an inscription that recalls the great restoration works of the years 1927-1939
(an initiative of the mayor and "Operaio" of the Cathedral Morando Stefani and the priest Lino Lombardi). On the Arringo side, there is an architrave with a miracle of St. Nicholas,
attributed to Biduino da Bidogno (13th century). The luminous vastness of the exterior scontrasts with the penumbra of the interiors, which are full of works of art such as the marble pulpit of Como school (13th century),
the wooden statue of St. Christopher (13th century), the Della Robbia works.
The Cathedral is next to Avelli (an ancient cemetery) and Arringo, where the people once met in parliament. On the Arringo you can find the 14th century Palazzo Pretorio, historic siege of the city magistrates, nowa Museum.
