Nel 1814 la Signora Teresa Carrara di Barga, moglie di Pellegrino Cardosi, fece apporre un quadro della Madonna sopra la Porta Reale, per un voto fatto in occasione del suo primo parto. Da quell'epoca, gli abitanti del quartiere continuarono a mantenervi acceso un lume la notte. L'immagine fu sostituita in epoca non precisata con un tondo in terracotta invetriata, manifattura di area fiorentina, ascrivibile ai primi decenni del ventesimo secolo (probabilmente durante gli anni '30). Vi è raffigurata una Madonna con Bambino che stringe in mano un cardellino, simbolo della Passione. Il quadro familiare è affiancato da due angeli oranti e incorniciato con un festone vegetale.

In 1814 Mrs Teresa Carrara form Barga, Pellegrino Cardosi's wife, put an image of the Virgin above Porta Reale, for a vow made on the birth of her first child. Since that time, the inhabitants of the neighbourhood continued to keep a lamp lit there at night. The image was replaced in an unspecified periodwith a tondo in glazed "terracotta". The tondo comes from Florence manufacturing area and can be dated to the early decades of the 20th century (probably during 1930s). It represents the Virgin with the Child who holds a goldfinch in his hand, a symbol of the Passion. The familiar picture is surrounded by two praying angels and a vegetable festoon.
