La devozione francescana condusse a Barga le terrecotte invetriate opera della famiglia dei Della Robbia. Nella chiesa di S. Francesco si conservano alcuni bellissimi esempi: - l'Assunzione al Cielo della Madonna mentre dona a S. Tommaso la cintola (Giovanni della Robbia, 1490 circa). La Madonna, in abbigliamento dell'epoca, è seduta in trono per la consegna della cinta, circondata da un ovale di testine di angeli; gigli e rose bianche emergono dalla tomba. S. Tommaso è affiancato da S. Francesco d'Assisi, S. Antonio da Padova e S. Bonaventura. Chiudono la scena una schiera di angeli musicanti e i festoni di frutta e fiori, congiunti dallo stemma di S. Bernardino (IHS). Nella predella, un tabernacolo o ciborio per reliquie di santi, affiancato da due angeli con cartiglio; - le statue di S. Andrea e S. Antonio Abate (bottega dei Della Robbia, 1490-1495); - la Natività (Luca della Robbia detto il giovane, 1509). A fianco della Madonna e S. Giuseppe in adorazione del Bambino, il Beato Michele da Barga e S. Girolamo caricato dei suoi attributi: il sasso usato per battersi il petto e il leone. Anche qui testine di angeli e angeli musicanti; nella predella, Gesù esanime tra i dolenti S. Maria e S. Giovanni, con due religiosi francescani e due laici, forse i committenti; - le Stigmate di S. Francesco (Girolamo della Robbia, 1510-1515). Il Santo riceve le stigmate dal Cristo crocifisso, modellato con ali di serafino, sulle montagne de La Verna, in presenza del compagno frate Leone. Il paesaggio è composito: alberi, rocce, animali, celle con frati in preghiera. Nella predella la Vergine con bambino, due angeli e quattro laici, assimilabili ai committenti. Terre robbiane non più presenti in S. Francesco si trovano, dopo alterne vicissitudini, presso il Duomo di Barga, il Bargello a Firenze e il Victoria and Albert Museum di Londra.

Franciscan devotion brought the glazed "terracotte" made by the Della Robbia family to Barga. Beautiful examples are preserved in St. Francis church: - the Assumption of the Virgin who gives St. Thomas the belt (Giovanni della Robbia, abt. 1490). The Madonna, in 15th century clothing, isseated on the throne for the delivery of the belt; she is surrounded by images of angels; lilies and white roses that emerge from the grave. St. Thomas is next to St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua and St. Bonaventura. The scene ends with musical angels and festoons of fruit and flowers, together with St. Bernardino symbol (IHS). In the predella, you can see a tabernacle or ciborium for the relics of saints, angels and two Francis can martyrs; - the statues of St. Andrew and St. Anthony Abate (produced by Della Robbia studio, 1490-1495); - the Nativity (Luca della Robbia junior, 1509). Beside the Virgin and St. Joseph in adoration of the Child, there is Blessed Michele from Barga and St. Girolamo. Other images of angels and musicians; in the predella, Jesus between Mary and St. John, with two Franciscan friars and twoother people, maybe the patrons; - The Stigmata of St. Francis (Girolamo della Robbia, 1510-1515). The saint receives the stigmata from the crucified Christ with cherubwings. He is on the mountains of La Verna, in the presence of friar Leone. The landscape is composed of trees, rocks, animals, cells with friars in prayer. In the predella of the Virgin and Child, two angels and four people, probably the patrons. Other Robbian works no longer present in St. Francis Church are in Barga Cathedral, in Bargello Museum (Florence) and in the Victoria and Albert Museum (London).
