Il Bastione domina il piazzale del Fosso ed il suo nome rimanda al passato medievale di Barga. Sul Bastione si innalza il monumento ad Antonio Mordini, opera in bronzo dello scultore fiorentino Raffaello Romanelli. Nato nel 1819 da una delle più importanti famiglie barghigiane, Mordini si avvicinò sin dalla giovane età al movimento risorgimentale. Inizialmente vicino alle idee mazziniane, patriota ed esule, seguì in Sicilia Garibaldi per il quale divenne prodittatore dell'isola; fu poi deputato, senatore e ministro del neonato Stato unitario. Morì nel 1902. Il monumento a lui dedicato fu inaugurato il 27 agosto 1905 alla presenza del poeta Giovanni Pascoli, incaricato di pronunciare il discorso celebrativo. Pascoli dettò anche il testo dell'epigrafe posta ai piedi della statua:
Senatore
XIV volte rappresentante del popolo
una volta di Garibaldi dittatore
nell'anno in cui combatterono i Mille
fu dei più eloquenti a suscitare
L'Italia nuova dalla memoria dell'antica
uditelo o cittadini
che dal bronzo perenne pronunzia sempre
io vi dico di serrare le file
Il monumento è circondato da un'esedra foggiata a sedile che nelle intenzioni dello scultore doveva fungere da luogo di ritrovo della gioventù di Barga. La statua sorge da ruderi di architettura greco-romana che rimandano all'idea di Roma capitale; alla base è inciso un bassorilievo raffigurante Mordini con Garibaldi. Alle spalle del monumento troneggiava un tempo un enorme cedro del Libano, uno dei simboli della vecchia Barga.

Bastione dominates the "Fosso square"; its name refers to Barga medieval history. Here stands the monument of Antonio Mordini; it is a bronze work by Florentine sculptor Raffaello Romanelli. Born in 1819 and part of one of Barga most important families, Mordini approached the Risorgimento movement during his youth. Patriot and exiled, he followed Garibaldi in Sicily where he became prodictor of the island; he was then deputy, senator and minister of the newly formed unitary state. He died in 1902. The monument was inaugurated on 27th August 1905, in presence of the poet Giovanni Pascoli who pronounced the celebrative speech. Pascoli also wrote the epigraph placed at the foot of the statue:

The monument is surrounded by an exedra: in the sculptor's intentions, it should be a meeting place for Barga young people. The statue rises from Greco-Roman ruins that refer to the idea of Rome as the capital; at the bottom there is a bas-relief depicting Mordini with Garibaldi. There used to be a huge cedar of Lebanonstanding behind the monument: it was one ofthe main Barga symbols.
